the fat cats | July 2003 TOKYO TOUR

The last two weeks of July 2003 saw The Fat Cats relocate their operations to Tokyo, Japan!  They played a total of five headline and support slots and went down astonishingly well. Each gig saw a new audience won over to The Fat Cat cause, whether it was the young J-Pop crowd or the local punk and hardcore fraternity.

“The tour went fantastically,” said a band spokesman yesterday, “We’d been thinking of Japan as a target market for over a year. We found it very refreshing how music and fashion tastes are more fluid there. We hoped that people would be ready and open to our music and thankfully we played 5 great shows with fantastic reaction.”

“We played with all sorts of bands and in front of all sorts of audiences.  Mostly we played with ska/punk bands and we were received brilliantly.  It is amazing to what extremes fashion and style are taken in Tokyo. But there doesn’t seem to be any of the attitude or aggro that often accompanies different groups." Learn to speak Japanese with Vahe and Tom... "We’d been told that the less rock-orientated audiences could be a little unresponsive and slow to get into a gig.  But we saw no evidence of that. People really responded to our music and we sold out of CDs very quickly."
The Fat Cats are planning a return trip as soon as possible, but first, recording of the 2nd album takes precedence.  This will eventually be released in the UK, Japan, and in other European countries with accompanying tours. Details to follow...Click the links below for more live shots from:
